Prepare everything you need. You can use either purple or white onions.
Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan, fry the sliced onion until soft. Peel and chop the apple, add it to the pan.
100 g apple, 100 g onion, 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Mix and let it sit for 2-3 minutes.
Add sliced red cabbage. Immediately pour in vinegar, add salt, sugar, ground pepper, and French mustard.
400 g red cabbage, 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp vinegar, ¼ tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, 1 pinch pepper
Sauté for a couple of minutes until the cabbage softens. Then cover with a lid, reduce the heat to a minimum, and cook for 15-20 minutes. The apples should completely soften. Be sure to taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. It all depends on the variety of apples, you may need to add a little sugar to sour ones.
Braised red cabbage German-style with apples is ready.
