Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Remove the pastry from the freezer and leave it for 1 hour. In the meantime, put the cherries in a pot, add sugar, cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of water, and put it on the heat. As it heats up, the cherries will release juice. Bring to a boil.
300 g puff pastry, 1 tbsp sugar, 300 g cherry, ½ tsp cinnamon, 2 tbsp water
In a cup, mix cornstarch and 30 ml of water. Pour into the boiling cherries, reduce the heat, and stir until thickened. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
2 tbsp water, 2 tbsp cornstarch
Sprinkle the table with a small amount of flour and roll out the dough into a thin layer. Brush the surface of the dough with a small amount of vegetable oil. Mix breadcrumbs and crushed walnuts and sprinkle along the entire length, excluding the edges of the dough.
2 tbsp breadcrumbs, 1 tbsp vegetable oil, 20 g walnut
Leaving a few centimeters from the edge, spread the filling on one side and sprinkle with the remaining mixture of nuts and breadcrumbs.
Roll it up and press the edges to prevent the filling from leaking out. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the dough with a thin layer of vegetable oil and make a couple of punctures with a toothpick. Put it in a preheated oven and bake at 200℃ for 20-25 minutes, depending on the thickness of the dough.
The cherry strudel is ready. Slice it into portions and serve. Optionally, garnish with powdered sugar. It is very delicious to eat the warm strudel with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
