  • Prepare the necessary ingredients.

  • Add salt to the flour. Grate the frozen butter using a fine grater. Mix it thoroughly with the flour.

  • Add ice-cold water. Gather the dough into a ball. Then place it in a plastic bag or plastic wrap and refrigerate for 60-80 minutes.

  • Wash the apples, peel them, and remove the core. Slice them into 5 mm thick slices. Add granulated sugar, cinnamon if desired, and potato or corn starch to the apples. Mix the filling thoroughly.

  • Divide the chilled dough into two parts. Roll out ⅔ of the dough into a sheet about 4 mm thick. Transfer it to a removable baking pan with a diameter of 18 cm. Place it so that the dough extends beyond the edges of the pan.

  • Spread the apple filling. Roll out the remaining dough into a sheet and cut it into strips. Place them on top of the pie in a checkerboard pattern. Pinch the edges of the pie with a ‘rope’.

  • Place the pie in a preheated oven at 190 °C. Bake for 50 minutes. Sprinkle the slightly cooled pie with powdered sugar and serve. Enjoy your meal!
