Traditional beef shepherd’s pie
Traditional beef shepherd's pie is a hearty dish loved by many generations of housewives because it can feed the whole family at once. It takes a lot of time to prepare, but all the efforts will definitely pay off. Loved ones will enjoy the tender meat filling and the golden crust on the mashed potatoes.

Ingredients
- 1 kg potatoes
- 400-500 g ground beef
- 1 cup milk
- 30 g butter
- 1 pc onion
- 50 g cheese
- 1 pc egg
- 2-3 cloves garlic
- 1 tbsp tomato paste optional fresh tomatoes
- 1 cup wine dry red
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp rosemary chopped
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch pepper ground
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare the necessary ingredients.
- Peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water.1 kg potatoes
- While the potatoes are cooking, finely chop the onion and garlic, and lightly sautรฉ them in vegetable oil.1 pc onion, 2-3 cloves garlic, 1 tsp vegetable oil
- Add the ground beef, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Mix everything together, sautรฉ a little, and let it stew covered for at least 30 minutes.400-500 g ground beef, 1 pinch pepper, 1 pinch salt
- Mash the boiled potatoes, adding warm milk and butter to them.30 g butter, 1 cup milk
- Season the mashed potatoes with the egg and cheese, grated on a coarse grater. Mix everything together, turning it into a mass for baking.1 pc egg, 50 g cheese
- Add tomato paste (or finely chopped tomatoes) and beef broth (or just water) to the skillet with the ground beef. Continue stewing the contents for another 30 minutes.1 tbsp tomato paste, 1 cup beef broth
- Add flavor accents to the cooked meat filling: pour in dry wine and Worcestershire sauce, sprinkle with rosemary. Mix everything thoroughly and heat until the alcohol and excess moisture evaporate.1 cup wine, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp rosemary
- Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil and spread a layer of stewed ground beef on the bottom.
- On top of the meat layer, spread the mashed potatoes with cheese and egg. Brush the surface of the potatoes with raw egg yolk to get a golden crust, and bake the dish in the oven for 20-25 minutes at a temperature of 200 โ.
- Sprinkle the finished pie with herbs. Enjoy your meal!
