  • 1 knife

  • 1 kg onion
  • 200 g bread
  • 500 g meat broth optional water, beef or chicken broth
  • 50 g cheese
  • 40 g butter
  • 100 g wine white
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper black, ground
  • 1 pc bay leaf


  • Prepare the necessary ingredients.

  • Melt the butter in a frying pan, add olive oil. Peel and chop the onion into random pieces and pour onto the pan.
    40 g butter, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 kg onion
  • Fry over low heat for 20-30 minutes. Stir every 3 minutes to allow the onion to brown properly. Over time, it will start to caramelize. The finished onion will have a reddish-brown color and a slightly sweet taste.

  • Pour in the wine and leave for a couple of minutes for it to evaporate. Add the flour and mix.

  • Grate the cheese and sprinkle it over the onion mixture. Toast the bread in a frying pan for a couple of minutes until lightly browned and rub with garlic. Trim to fit the shape of the dish and place on top of the onion.
